Section A Day Hikes:
I did these hikes during the summer of 2016 while I was living near the start of the trail. I've always been worried about the lack of water on the start of the trail, so it was great to see some of it and ease my anxiety by getting to know it well.
- Miles 0 to 2.3: The border to Hwy 94
- Miles 2.3 to 6: From Hwy 94
- Miles 16 to 20.6: Hauser Creek to Lake Morena
- Miles 20.6 to 26.6: Lake Morena to Boulder Oaks
- Miles 41.6 to 48.9: Burnt Rancheria Campground to Penny Pines, on Mt. Laguna
Section A Backpacking:
In March 2017, a friend and I set out to thru-hike Section A. Here are my trail diaries from our short little trip. FYI, we did this hike early in the season in a very rainy year. We were very fortunate in the amount of water on this section of the trail which is usually pretty dry. If you are planning your own hike, do not count on any of the water we found to be there. Check PCTWater.com to find out the current conditions.
